With the possible exception of Minecraft, no other console game nurtures its players’ imaginations and creativity quite like LittleBigPlanet 2. The first game’s user-content creation tools were a revolution in player freedom, and the sequel not only refines, but expands, these options. To allow you – yes, you – to create not only new levels, but whole new stories, worlds and even games. And the stuff the community has created is incredible.

No, LittleBigPlanet 2 doesn’t have a sophisticated platforming system as out-of-this-world Marios and Ramons (it’s still fun, even if), but judging the game on these terms is as short-sighted as rejecting war and peace. Do because you don’t like the font in which it is printed. Simply put, it is one of the most important, relevant and entertaining games on any PlayStation.

Memory: 2GB RAM
Hard Disk Space: 17 GB free hard drive space

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

How do you make the best superhero game ever? You add a lot to it and leave them all in one of the coolest open-world cities you’ve ever seen in a game. Cleverly choosing mass fidelity, individuality, and meaningful design for scale, Rocksteady’s quarantine part of Gotham is the most striking, influencing, and most utterly purposeful environment I’ve seen in an entire generation.

Letting literally and figuratively fly the powerful yet perfectly balanced mechanics of the first game, Arkham City’s architecture is an equally grand victory both in gameplay and aesthetically.

But just as important, it is never overpowered or overpowered by what made Arkham Asylum great. The same mix of intelligent, creative sandbox stealth and taxing, thrilling, almost musical combat still underpins everything and is better than ever. That Arkham City also plays host to a Batman story that is dark, dramatic, and utterly epic to stand out in any medium, utility is just the icing on the cake.

system requirement

Fighting games were in a tough spot before 2009, but Street Fighter 4 brought the series back to its popularity roots, which also featured the more popular Street Fighter 2. Its highly stylized art style proved strange, but ultimately engaging, and its online play was so fruitful that the genre no longer felt like a total nonstarter.

It was the base game of the genre through the release of Ultra Street Fighter 4, which is considered the top of Street Fighter 4 due to its larger roster and stronger balance. Its influence has waned since then, but it is undoubtedly one of the most important games in the history of the genre, and still one of the best games on the PS3.

additional Info

Portal 2 is a perfect example of what a sequel could be. It took the basic framework and blew it into a true classic. The writing is more fun, the campaign longer and more layered in its puzzles and storytelling. Throw in one of the biggest standalone co-op campaigns of all time, and you have an forever filled with unforgettable moments, from the GLaDOS potato sequence to the final moon shot.

It’s been over a decade since we found this incredible sequel, but it’s hard to imagine how the third entry would top this modern classic. Still: We’d love to see Valve try it.

5. Dark Souls

system requirement

While Dark Souls wasn’t the first Soulsborn game to arrive on the PS3 (that honor belongs to 2009’s Demon Souls), FromSoftware’s next Soulsborn became a runaway hit that helped spawn a successful franchise and more widespread success. Yes, it retains the brutal difficulty of Demon’s Souls, but its impeccable level design, allowing players to venture and die in the kingdom of Lordran in the many different locations it has to date, remains to be seen and explored. is a miracle.

Add to that the core elements of Dark Souls’ combat and progression system that would become the basis of the trilogy, and a stellar lineup of boss fights that are still some of the most memorable in the series, and Dark Souls just wasn’t a great blueprint for what’s next. What if – it was an unforgettable adventure in itself.
