How to Tame a Fox in Minecraft Java Edition

If you want to tame foxes, you’ll need to follow these steps:
First, if you want to tame a fox, you need to know where it breeds. There are two types of foxes in the game, the snow fox with white fur and the red fox with the red coat. The snow fox roams wild on the snowy taiga biome, while its red cousin can be found in either the taiga or giant tree taiga biomes.
If you’re new to the game and not familiar with biome types, you’ll recognize taigas by their abundance of spruce trees and mountainous terrain. The giant tree taiga are essentially the same, except that the trees are much larger than normal. Snowy taiga are its snow-capped version.
Naturally born foxes won’t trust the player, so you’ll need to tame the items before proceeding. Foxes love sweet berries, and fortunately, they grow normally in all taiga biomes. You can recognize a sweet berry shrub by its telltale red markings. Collect as many as you can because you will need them. Around 70 or so would suffice.
While you’re at it, collect other resources, like wood, clay or stone, that you can use to build the wall. You’ll also need a lead, as foxes won’t automatically chase you like wolf pets do. To make a lead, you’ll need four strings and a slimeball. Stringing can be obtained from spiders, striders, cats or plucking cobwebs. Slimeballs can be obtained from slimes or from a sneezing baby panda.
A lead is made by combining items in the crafting grid. Place the slimeball in the middle, then the strings in positions 1, 2, 4 and 9. This combination will create two leads that you can use.
How to Tame a Fox in Minecraft Education Edition
The Education Edition of Minecraft is based on the Bedrock Edition, so they have similar steps. The only change is that players who do not have WorldBuilder permissions can limit what they are allowed to do.
The steps in the Java version of the game must be followed in the Education version if you want to tame a fox. This will present a problem for players who are locked in an area without a taiga biome, or an unchanging world because they cannot break blocks to collect resources. If enemies are locked in as well, collecting strings and slime balls can prove difficult.
Taming foxes in the education version is entirely possible using the steps above, but it requires the cooperation of the teacher to gather the necessary materials.
