The Las Vegas Raiders defeated the Minnesota Vikings 26-20 in their first 2022 Preseason Game action inside Allegiant Stadium. Sunday’s game was the first time many Raiders new players were inside their new home stadium and crowded around them. The locker room consensus was overwhelmed by the energy of the building, which included Coach McDaniel.
“I’ve been around a lot of pre-season games in 22 years, and I don’t remember any feeling like that,” McDaniels told Postgame. “All I’ll say is welcome our fans, Raider Nation is totally different the way you see them now. It’s the best atmosphere in a preseason game I’ve ever been a part of. And that’s easy to say Yes, clearly.
Winner: QB Jarrett Stidham
Jarrett Stidham has a solid hold on the backup quarterback job in Las Vegas, but he still has to perform well every week to maintain his position, especially with veteran Nick Mullens behind him on the depth charts.
Stidham took command of the offense for the second week in a row, facing pressure from the defense, completing 10–15 passes for 68 yards as he was dismissed three times. Also for the second-straight week, he had a speedy touchdown.
A rushing touchdown from a QB may not have been McDaniels’ favorite way to score in the red zone, but six points are six points, and Stidham did it. His solid performance keeps him in the No. 2 spot, even though Mullens himself has had a great day, completing 7-of-9 passes for 94 yards and a touchdown through the air.
McDaniels may not have all the answers after Sunday’s 26-20 presidential win over the Minnesota Vikings, but he’s happy with what he’s seeing in two preseason games.
“I think we have some depth to tackle and some competition,” McDaniel said. “We’ve told them from day one that this is going to be a situation where people earn their opportunities and they will determine their roles.”
Using multiple turns for nearly every offensive series, the Raiders (2-0) were able to maintain second-half drives of 10 and 15 plays, both of which resulted in touchdowns, forfeiting control of the game and Minnesota. Stayed at (0-1). arm length
Why the Raiders can cover
Las Vegas solidified the top half of their wide receiver corps this season by acquiring Davante Adams from the Green Bay Packers. The Raiders, however, will use Sunday’s game to take a look at the depth of the situation. Among those seeing action against Jacksonville was third-year pro Tyron Johnson, who played for Jacksonville in 2021 and the Los Angeles Chargers in 2020. In his first two seasons, Johnson has 22 receptions for 414 yards (18.8 average) and three touchdowns. Johnson caught two passes for 39 yards against the Jaguars last week.
Another recipient looking to cement a spot on the roster is sixth-year pro DeMarcus Robinson, who played his first five seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. Robinson played all 17 games for the Chiefs last season, scoring 25 passes for 264 yards (10.6 average) and three touchdowns. For his career, he has played 81 games, catching 145 passes for 1,679 yards (11.6 average) and 14 touchdowns. Last week he took two catches from 17 yards.
Among the rookies, Raiders’ seventh round pick Brittain Brown was a standout. He finished the game as the leading game with 14 carries, 54 yards and a final field trip.
Despite it being a pre-season game, scoring touchdowns in the NFL is a feat that running back rookies can always be proud of.
“It’s amazing. It’s like a dream come true,” Brown said. “It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while now. It was nice to be there with my teammates and celebrate in the end zone.”
The team will have a lot of film to watch this week as they prepare to travel to South Florida to face the Miami Dolphins on Saturday.
