fun things to build in minecraft with redstone

Minecraft has a plethora of minerals, metals and ores. Most of them exist in real life like lapis lazuli, diamonds and gold.

However, redstone is an in-game exclusive item that you can use for a ton of purposes. Players can spend hours building their redstone designs and eventually end up with extremely breathtaking and useful structures.

For those who wonder what they can do with redstone, you can find some of the most impressive redstone builds in Minecraft here.

1. Bedtime Alarm

Everyone has done this at least once in their Minecraft career: stood in front of their bed with the sun setting in the background, spamming hopelessly until their character rolled into bed.

Thankfully, this time spent spamming conversations in bed can be better spent with an in-use alarm to indicate the time of day.

It may sound like a useless contraption, but it will save players an extra few minutes around sunset to perform the final routine in their base. Mumbo Jumbo shows off this super easy and basic bedtime alarm in its video and even shows you how to make it.

To make a simple alarm system in Minecraft, these items are required:

  • 1 Iron door
  • 2 Pressure plates
  • 2 Sticky pistons
  • Redstone dust
  • 4 Redstone comparators
  • 1 Bell or Noteblock
  • 1 lever

2. Flying Machine

Instead of using the usual transportation methods like walking, sprinting, swimming or flying, you can now ride a flying machine! With a simple design and good looking appearance, this redstone machine will take you to the end of the world without any fuel or hassle.

However, this machine has two problems. The first thing to do is if there is a block in front of it, the machine will shut down, so you need to turn it on again manually. Ideally, you’ll want to build this machine sky high.

Another factor is its speed, 4.44m/s, which is slightly faster than the normal running speed in Minecraft. But since you can just idle in the machine, this speed is acceptable and gets used quite a bit.

Items needed to build a flying machine in Minecraft:

  • 1x Sticky Piston
  • 1x Regular Piston
  • 2x Observer
  • 7x Slime Block
  • A lot of building blocks (e.g., cobblestone)

3. An Automatic Chicken Cooker

Maintaining an adequate supply of food during the early Minecraft game can be a nightmare; Fortunately, auto-chicken cookers do exist.

While they may not be the most humane devices, their sheer simplicity is unmistakable: trap a bunch of chickens on a hopper and automatically lay eggs using a dispenser.

The chicks are placed on a slab, then, once they grow up, their increased size pushes them into the water which leads them to a burning net. You’ll never need to worry about food again!

Materials Needed For An Automatic Chicken Farm

  • One chest
  • One dispenser
  • One non-wooden slab
  • Two hoppers
  • 10 glass blocks
  • One bucket of lava
  • One piece of redstone dust
  • One redstone comparator
  • Three building blocks
  • One fence post
  • Most importantly, some chickens

Some of the grand designs that players love to do are to take out huge bodies of water and use the rest of the land to build whatever they want.

However, removing all this water can be a tedious process that can take hours, as water in Minecraft is finicky and annoying. This design involves real robots (yes, you can now make robots in Minecraft) to slowly move all the water from one area to another according to your needs.

This is one of the best Minecraft Redstone ideas because it solves a major issue that has been a problem of building for years.

Build Prerequisites

  • 30 slime blocks
  • 12 building blocks (any type)
  • Eight pistons
  • Six sticky pistons
  • Eight redstone blocks
  • Six observers
  • Two sand or gravel
  • Enough sand or gravel to wall in the edges of the water

5. Zombie Siege

The gaming world absolutely loves zombie survival games, and Minecraft already has a creepy night-time setting with tons of mind-eating zombies roaming around.

User FVDisco, who created the digital guitar listed earlier, is back for another round of Redstone shaming. He created an entire mini-game known as Zombie Siege.

The mini-game requires players to take down hordes of undead as they charge at you. It can also be played in multiplayer with friends.
