Everything we know about GTA 6: Leaks, rumors & more features

The GTA series spans over two decades, and several titles have been released during these years. Some are mainstream games like Vice City, Three, Four and Five, while others are platform specific and add in lore (Chinatown Wars, Liberty and Vice City Stories).

That said, the series is also known for reusing mechanics and features from older games released in the past. The next iteration of the Grand Theft Auto series, GTA 6 (or whatever it may be called), is being developed, and there are a few features it can pick up from its predecessors.

Crossplay in GTA 6: PS5, Xbox Series X & PC

Currently, none of Rockstar’s games have the ability to enable cross-play. However, with GTA 6, it is likely that this may be the first time this feature has appeared in one of their titles.

This can allow players of all hardware to play simultaneously. Whether you are on console or PC, you can be able to interact in GTA 6 without any limitations.

GTA 6 features

Although no features have been revealed in GTA 6 yet, there are undoubtedly some big mechanics that would make a comeback from many other Rockstar titles, or entirely new features, such as:

  • A huge range of weapons
  • Side missions
  • Multiple locations
  • A massive map
  • Female leads
  • Multiple leads
  • A modern-day setting
  • Cars customization

Beyond the usual gameplay upgrades, various leaks have also indicated that new mods may be on the way for the next iteration of GTA Online. An exclusive insider reported that a “battle royale-type mode” is currently in the works, which features up to 100 players in the middle of a deadly storm.

GTA 6 gameplay

Waiting for details on a new GTA game usually involves a major area of speculation – where will it be set? While the characters and story are subject to interesting details, there’s something about GTA’s setting that makes Rockstar feel like the most important choice. Whether it is Liberty City, Los Santos or any other metropolitan area, the playground in which players will riot is a big question mark on the game.

For the moment this is where speculation has focused, with GTA Online players convinced at one point that GTA 6 will take place in Vice City, Miami’s much-loved, neon-soaked alternate version of GTA 3. Reasoning behind this? GTA Online’s Racing DLC, Open Wheels, features a race circuit that looks suspiciously like the outline of a map that will include Miami, as well as a part of Mexico. The outline looks fairly clear, as you can see in the image below, but it’s obvious that Rockstar is keeping its advice at this stage.

GTA 6 story

The main story of every GTA game so far involves criminality, as a rule, but the exact taste is always up for change. An important piece of information when it comes to the story of GTA 6 is that Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser left the studio in March 2020.

That means one of the studio’s key flavor makers and writers is gone, who along with his brother Sam shaped the tone of the franchise from the start.

Now, on the one hand, given the potential timing of the game, there’s a good chance Dan Houser was able to put solid input and influence on the script and story before he left. On the other hand, if he was going out it’s very likely he wasn’t nearly that involved. This means we may be in for a change of voice for GTA 6, something that reports indicate that the story was restarted after Houser’s departure, which surfaced in November 2021.
