Trump rally ups the stakes in proxy fight with Arizona governor Live update

Donald Trump will travel to Arizona later this month to campaign for Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake, escalating an escalating proxy battle between the former president and the government. Doug Ducey, who has endorsed a rival GOP candidate.

Trump’s Saturday rally in Prescott Valley, which was announced Monday night, comes ahead of the August 2 primary. Lake is running against a field that includes Karin Taylor Robson, a former member of the Arizona Board of Regents and a wealthy GOP donor who received Ducey’s backing last week.

The primary is the latest point of contention between Trump and Ducey. The former president has repeatedly attacked Arizona’s governor for refusing to reverse the 2020 election result in Arizona, which President Joe Biden narrowly won. After the election, Ducey was famously seen to voicemail the former president signing papers certifying Biden’s victory.

The contest revolves around the 2020 campaign to succeed the term-limited Ducey as governor. Lake, a former local TV news anchor, has echoed Trump’s ongoing lie that the election was stolen and made it the focus of his campaign. Robson, meanwhile, has not joined other Arizona Republicans in saying Trump won the state.

junior achievement receives grant from ups

Bowling Green — UPS awarded a $7,300 grant to Junior Achievement (JA) of South Central Kentucky. The fund will help provide funding for educational programming on financial literacy, job-readiness, and entrepreneurship for local K-12 students.

South Central Kentucky’s Junior Achievement provides classroom and virtual learning opportunities for students at no cost to schools. Funding from the International Paper Grant will help pay for support materials, training, volunteer recruitment and assessment of students as they work to make classroom learning a high-impact endeavor. The International Paper Foundation focuses on providing assistance to meet four critical community needs: education, hunger, health and wellness, and disaster relief.

“We are thrilled to partner with UPS,” said Eli Sharp, president of Junior Achievement for South Central Kentucky. “This grant enables JA students to develop their financial literacy skills as they prepare for a bright future.”
