12 Open-World Games

Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning

Here’s a game that honestly has a bit of a tricky history. But we will focus on sports here.

In this remastered game, you’ll take on the role of a man trying to save the land from war. As you might expect, this is not the easiest thing to do. But the compensation is that it is a vast world to enjoy.

Plus, you’ll be able to build the main character however you please, and then take all kinds of quests, sidequests and other journeys that will apparently take you “hundreds of hours” to complete. That’s a lot of material! Reviewers said so too!

So while it’s unlikely to ever get a sequel, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t play it and enjoy it.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus

If you’re finally tired of Pokémon Go, then Pokémon Legends: Arceus is for you. Set in the vast Hisui region (later known as Sinoh), the game takes place in a bygone era when people and Pokémon lived together in close harmony. Featuring new Pokémon, new trainers, and new ways to fight and explore, Arceus offers an exciting new adventure in a massive 3D open world.

Horizon: Forbidden West

As a follow-up to Guerrilla Games’ popular Horizon: Zero Dawn, Horizon: Forbidden West was always going to be a huge hit. With better graphics and gameplay, it’s arguably more engaging than the original, and offers some interesting character development as well.

The action role-playing game begins more or less where Alloy follows on a new quest to the Forbidden West to find the source of a mysterious plague that infects everyone.

Fallout 4

Fallout 4 has always been a game that has a well-developed modding community. Over the years, many great mods have been released that improve the game. What makes Fallout 4 even more fun is being able to fly.

While the base game includes a jetpack, it runs through the power core fairly quickly, and flight cannot be sustained. Fortunately, there are several methods that allow you to cross the wasteland by flying. Some mods only allow you to fly while others use jetpacks.

Batman: Arkham City

Rocksteady set a new standard for superhero games with Batman: Arkham Asylum, and the studio somehow surpassed it with its sequel, Batman: Arkham City. The open-world Caped Crusader game features a once-copy mix of 3D brawl action and stealth, along with incredibly fun traversal through Batman’s cape and various gadgets.

There are tons of collectibles and side missions to find and complete, as you’d expect given Batman’s many enemies, and getting from Point A to Point B is just as enjoyable as Batman has to do when he actually gets there. . It’s the type of open world that never gets in the way, something that less games often mess up the critical drive for more “content”.

Battling Pokémon

Another way to calm an angry Pokémon is to fight it.

Just like you can throw items at any time, you can also throw at your Pokémon party members. By pressing the X button, you’ll swap between items and Pokémon, which use an item wheel-style select system so you can quickly choose the best monster to battle. Simply throw your favorite Pokémon at another Pokémon in the wild and you’ll begin a turn-based battle.

The biggest difference in actual combat is that it’s based on speed, not turn order. A fast enough Pokémon may attack twice in a row, while a slow Pokémon may not be able to move until their opponent has attacked twice. The game offers a handy move order sheet on the right side of the screen to help you figure out who’s next. However, when you’re swapping Pokemon, the sheet disappears, which can cause a lot of confusion.

However move order is more than just a stat game. When Pokémon master their moves by leveling up or approaching a particular trainer, they’ll be able to attack in a variety of styles: agile and strong.
