top 5 most popular Legendary Pokemon of all time, ranked

When it comes to raw power and impressive base stat totals, few Pokémon can even come close to competing with many of the series’ legendary Pokémon.

The likes of Charizard and Pikachu may lead the way when it comes to the most popular Pokémon in the series, but, when instead of measuring up for the most powerful, they find themselves well below the pecking order.

It’s the one that instead dominates many of the series’ Legendary Pokémon, who live up to their title with regards to power.

best Legendary Pokémon, ranked

If you are wondering what is the best Legendary Pokemon ever, you are not alone, as this is a question that is asked by trainers on countless occasions. So, we’re here to answer it with our top 5 rankings of the most powerful (and cool looking) giants out there.

1. MEWTWO

Psychic type Pokémon Mewtwo is a man-made, genetically enhanced version of the legendary Pokémon Mew. Mewtwo is one of the most formidable Pokémon ever. It is capable of using its type-specific powers as well as telekinesis and telepathy.

And it makes effective use of these abilities. Telekinesis allows it to fly and telepathy helps it translate Pokémon language and communicate with people. Mewtwo is so emotionally complex that it is often compared to a human.

This arrogant Pokémon is very aware of its enormous power levels, which makes it act domineering. It will use its abilities to impress and even intimidate. Canonical events confirm that Mewtwo can tolerate extreme physical pressure, teleport great distances, and learn and adapt during combat without the help of a trainer or Pokémon master.

2. Xerneas – Generation VI

Xerneas is a fairy-type Pokémon. It represents 1/3 of the Aura Trio, along with Yveltal and Zygarde. Legend says that when its horns glow in seven colors, it is sharing life forever. What makes Xerneas stand out is its excellent charging movements.

Xerneas is resistant to the three elements, outweighing its weaknesses of steel and poison. Geomancy is the name of its signature move, and you can hear a lot about it from Pokemon fans as it became a fan favorite because of Xernis’ ability to increase defense and offense in two stages.

In addition, Xerneas is particularly capable against dragon-type Pokémon, which are considered some of the most difficult ones to defeat. What makes Xerneas less powerful is that after it explodes, it falls asleep and doesn’t engage in combat.

3. Lugia

Although not quite as popular as its fellow gen 2 mascot, Ho-Oh, Lugia is still an incredibly useful Pokémon to have on one’s team; Assuming that the players can find one.

It has access to some great psychic and flying type moves and can even cover water and ice-type attacks if the push really hits.

Where Lugia really shines, however, is through its excellent defensive stats, with a significant proportion of the Pokémon’s 680 base stat total devoted to physical and special defense. This pairs well with Lugia’s hidden ability, Multiscale, which reduces the damage dealt to an attacking Pokemon by 50% while at full health.

4. Zacian

The franchise’s latest fairy-type legend, Zassian, appeared as the mascot for Pokémon Sword.

It has one of the most interesting Legendary designs, even holding a sword in its mouth – which was a bit strange at first, but it became a defining feature and made it a fan-favourite. Zasian also benefits from having the form of a crowned sword when the rusty sword is given to bear.

This makes it one of the most powerful fairy-types to have ever graced the series, with a 720 base stat that includes an earth-shattering 170 attack stat. It also gains steel-typing, giving it an enormous amount of type resistance.

5. Landorus

Landoras is the leader of the forces of nature, with his own move set that lets him learn attacks such as Stone Age, Rock Tomb, Bulldoze, Earthquake, Outrage and Fissure.

Its design is better than the others, thanks to a unified color scheme and a Therian form that doesn’t look like a thing out of Doctor Morrow’s Island.

Still, it’s too bad to be the best of the worst, and the Force of Nature quartet bombards heavily. They don’t really serve any purpose in the Unova story and don’t even fit the American theme of the region.
