The Angels Are Now Taking Offers on Shohei Ohtani
The MLB trade deadline is now just days away, and teams are scrambling. There are a lot of names out there, but the potential Juan Soto trade is slowing the market down, albeit only slightly. But it matters a lot why teams looking for the bat would wait to see what happens to him.
But suddenly another big name may appear. The Angels had previously stated that they were not considering Shohei Ohtani’s trade or fielding offers for him. It’s safe to assume that the MLB teams assumed there was no chance for him.
But his tune may have changed this week. Jon Heyman’s latest report is that the Angels suddenly aren’t hanging out on phone calls about the Ohtani business. So if every team in MLB wasn’t already interested, they just have to be.

The New York Post’s John Heyman and Joel Sherman report that although a deal is ultimately unlikely, the Angels have not turned away interested teams as they have made inquiries and submitted trade offers for two-way star and AL MVP Shohei Ohtani. The Post pair spoke with three executives whose team has reached out to the Angels, all of whom have described the prospect of a trade as extremely low due to the surprisingly hefty asking price.

The 28-year-old is in the midst of yet another incredible season, with a 2.81 ERA with a 36.4% strike rate and a 5.8% walk rate through 99 1/3 innings. He is hitting .254/.349/.486 with 21 home runs and 11 stolen bases.
Dating back to the previous season, Ohtani has hit .256 / .363 / .550, 67 home runs in 1052 plate appearances, while also playing 229 2/3 innings of 3.02 ERA balls with a 32.3% strike rate . It’s a legitimately historical performance, the likes of which current fans haven’t seen in their lifetime.
