Shohei Ohtani trade rumors: The best trade package Dodgers must offer for Shohei Ohtani

Shohei Ohtani is one of the most exciting talents in the history of baseball. The reigning AL MVP is a distinctive talent both on the plate and on the pitching mound. In 2021 he scored the third most home runs in MLB with 46 in the season.

He also had 80 extra-base hits, ranked second among majors and in the 97th percentile in maximum exhaust velocity. He did it all while having 3.18 ERAs and making 156 strikeouts in 130 1/3 innings. Ohtani scored as many home runs as he scored.

The Angels star shows no signs of slowing down as he turns 28 and is in the prime of his career. He has a 2.81 ERA so far this season and has scored 21 home runs. There has been a whisper of franchises hearing proposals for generational talent that will surely attract massive attention around the league. Mike Trout’s injury and poor performance overall have made rebuilding a more realistic possibility.

An MLB executive suggested the Angels want the top 4 prospects of any team in the Ohtani deal. Ohtani has only one more season of team control, so it could be an expensive deal even for “MLB the Shaw”. With Angels tanking like a torpedo submarine, though, I imagine there would be some wiggle room.

Apart from If we are talking about Juan Soto as the most talented player in MLB, then we have to admit that Ohtani brings more value as a player than Soto. We are talking about the 2021 AL MVP who can also throw smoke on the mound. Imagine entering the playoffs with Ohtani as your number three starter.

The Angels Are Now Taking Offers on Shohei Ohtani

The MLB trade deadline is now just days away, and teams are scrambling. There are a lot of names out there, but the potential Juan Soto trade is slowing the market down, albeit only slightly. But it matters a lot why teams looking for the bat would wait to see what happens to him.

But suddenly another big name may appear. The Angels had previously stated that they were not considering Shohei Ohtani’s trade or fielding offers for him. It’s safe to assume that the MLB teams assumed there was no chance for him.

But his tune may have changed this week. Jon Heyman’s latest report is that the Angels suddenly aren’t hanging out on phone calls about the Ohtani business. So if every team in MLB wasn’t already interested, they just have to be.

A deadline season that already has one of the highest-profile trade candidates in Juan Soto could add another to the list. The New York Post’s John Heyman and Joel Sherman report that although a deal is ultimately unlikely, the Angels have not turned away interested teams as they have made inquiries and submitted trade offers for two-way star and AL MVP Shohei Ohtani. Huh.

The Post pair spoke with three executives whose team has reached out to the Angels, all of whom have described the prospect of a trade as extremely low due to the surprisingly hefty asking price.

The mere notion of a thrifty business will ignite a frenzy of speculation and wishful thinking – and with good reason. The 28-year-old is in the midst of yet another incredible season, with a 2.81 ERA with a 36.4% strike rate and a 5.8% walk rate through 99 1/3 innings. He is hitting .254/.349/.486 with 21 home runs and 11 stolen bases.

Dating back to the previous season, Ohtani has hit .256 / .363 / .550, 67 home runs in 1052 plate appearances, while also playing 229 2/3 innings of 3.02 ERA balls with a 32.3% strike rate . It’s a legitimately historical performance, the likes of which current fans haven’t seen in their lifetime.
