How do you create a compass in Minecraft?

Like most items in Minecraft, if you want to make a compass, you’ll need to combine a few different materials. Specifically, you’ll need to collect four iron ingots and a redstone. Once you have those materials on your list, follow the steps below to make a compass.

  • put the redstone in the middle of the grid
  • Place the iron ingots on the top, bottom and both sides of the redstone (see picture above)
  • Move the Compass from the Crafting Table to Your Inventory

Step 3: Combine Echo Shards with a Compass on the Crafting Table.

Step 4: Voila! You now have a handy retrieval compass. Hide it near your spawn so you can catch it when things go south during the quest. It’s no use if you catch it and die and release it.

What can you do with a compass?

By default, your compass will point to the world spawn point. You don’t have to equip it; Keep an eye on the icons in your list.

If you use a compass on a lodestone, it will point to the lodestone instead. If you break the lodestone, the compass will not work. Use multiple compasses with the loadstone to keep track of important landmarks.
