Luke Knox, Florida International football player and younger brother of Buffalo Bills' Dawson Knox, dies at age 22

School officials said Luke Knox died on Wednesday evening. The reason was not disclosed, although the university said the police did not suspect foul play.

Knox, who studied business, was 22 years old.

FIU coach Mike McIntyre wrote on social media, “The sadness we are saddened by the passing of our partner and friend Luke Knox cannot be expressed in words.” “I had the honor of coaching Luke at Ole Miss and FIU. While I admired his passion for football, his true love for his family and teammates is one that I will always remember.”

FIU players were informed of Knox’s death late Wednesday. Thursday’s practice was cancelled, and bereavement counselors were brought in to meet with the team and others in the university community.

Knox, a former star of the Brentwood Academy in Nashville, played at Ole Miss from 2018-21.

Ole Miss coach Kiffin said: “Our entire football team has a heavy heart after the departure of Luke Knox.” “I am so grateful for my personal relationship and the time I spent with Luke. He was a tremendous teammate and a better person who raised everyone around him.

Knox played in a game in 2018, when McIntyre was the Rebels’ defensive coordinator, before emerging as a contributor to the linebacker in 2019. He made 10 tackles, two for defeats, with two pass breakups as a redshirt freshman. He made only one tackle in 2020 and recorded no figures after converting to a tight end ahead of the 2021 season.

Knox appeared in every game starting twice for the Rebels in 2019, recording 10 tackles, two TFLs and two pass deflections. He played three games on special teams in 2020 and returned in 2021 with 11 tackles, two TFLs and a fumble recovery.

Rebels coach Len Kiffin wrote on Twitter: “Our entire football team is deeply moved by the passing of Luke Knox. “I am so grateful for my personal relationship and the time I spent with Luke. He was a tremendous teammate and a better person who raised everyone around him.

Knox is the younger brother of Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox, who played for Ole Miss from 2016–18.

“Tough morning. Our hearts go out to Dawson and his family during this time,” said Bills coach Sean McDermott. “Sad news I woke up this morning. We love and support her.”
