how to make a name tag in minecraft

Minecraft players looking for name tags have to spend their time either fishing, exploring, or trading with a librarian of the max level. Name tags are difficult to obtain in Minecraft but are one of the more interesting items in the game.

These items allow players to name any mob in the game except Ender Dragon. This feature makes them desirable for Minecraft players who want to add an extra layer of personalization to their world.

But despite this desirability, name tags cannot be created in Minecraft. Players have to either trade, fish, or find these items. The first and most reliable method is to trade with a librarian of the highest level.

Each name tag costs the player 20 emeralds. This method of obtaining a name tag is the only way to guarantee access to the item, but it requires a significant investment of materials.

Ways to Obtain a Name Tag in Minecraft

There are three ways to get name tags in Minecraft:

  • Explore: Find name tags in chests that appear in various locations, including dungeons, mineshafts, and woodland mansions
  • Trade: Trade a master-level librarian villager for a name tag
  • Fishing: Every time you go fishing there’s a slight chance of catching a name tag

How Name Tags work in ‘Minecraft’

Name tags are items that, when placed on an NPC, are given a unique name. The name you give will be displayed above their head whenever you get close to them and see them. Naming the NPCs also makes it so that they are never disappointed.

This means that if you rename a random zombie in a cave, for example, that zombie will be there forever, even if you leave and never return. However, named NPCs can still die, at which point you will lose the name tag.

Every NPC can be renamed except Ender Dragon. You cannot rename other players. Unlike most things in “Minecraft,” you can’t actually create a name tag. You have to search for it or trade it.

This may take some time if you don’t know where to look. Luckily, there are a few reliable places to snag tags, a surefire way to trade for them, and even a method of fishing—though you’ll need to get lucky.

How to use a Name Tag in Minecraft

In addition to other players and the Ender Dragon, you can name any mob with this item. Here’s how to use name tags in Minecraft:

  • First, rename it to an anvil. This will cost one level of experience.
  • The name tag will be activated as soon as it consumes some EXP.
  • Take the name tag in your hand and click on the crowd you want to name.
  • As soon as the name of the crowd is made, she will not be disappointed.

Name tags do not stack unless they have the same name.

The name tag cannot be obtained through crafting and therefore players need to find it in the world. They can be found naturally through the following means:

Chests

Nametags are found in chests from dungeons, mineshafts, woodland mansions and even buried treasure!

Fishing

Payers have a small chance of getting a name tag while fishing. This is treasure level loot and is very rare. However, this can be improved by a Luck of the Sea encounter on a fishing rod.

Trading

Players can also trade them from Villagers, a master-level librarian, who sells name tags for 20 Emeralds.
