How to get Lucky Pokemon in Pokemon GO

Lucky Pokémon are indicated by a golden glow on their information page, which replaces the usual type-based backgrounds they find.

How to get Lucky Pokémon

You can get Lucky Pokémon randomly when trading Pokémon with friends.  When you trade, there is little chance that your Pokémon will become lucky.

According to research from The Silph Road, Pokémon are more likely to become lucky if they were caught long ago.

Lucky if they were caught long ago.  Research shows that while Pokémon under a year old have about a 5% chance of getting lucky, Pokémon that are one year old have a 10% chance.

This means that catching rare Pokémon for a long time is probably worth doing, even if it's just to get lucky Pokémon.

If you have Lucky Friends, which happens randomly with Best Friends, your next trade will be Lucky, guaranteed.

While Niantic hasn't announced the Lucky Friends chance, some researchers on the Silph Road subreddit have noted that the Lucky Friends odds are a little less than 2% per exchange.
