How to customize shield in Minecraft 1.19 update

Minecraft is a game about player customization.  From the style of the base to the type of farms, to the biomes to live in, even to the type and palette of blocks used to build these things, players have complete control over what they build and how.

An interesting use case for this customization that many users may not have experimented with is the game's ability to customize its shield.

An interesting use case for this customization that many users may not have experimented with is the game's ability to customize its shield.  These items are one of the title's best because of the damage reduction, so it's incredibly good to get personal.

Aside from crafting, which we'll get to in a second, the only way to get shields in Minecraft is through trading.  To do this, you'll need to trade with Travelman level armorer villagers.

You can use our minecraft ore delivery guide to easily find iron ore in the game.  Then, you need to smelt the cast iron in a furnace or blast furnace to get iron ingots.

For planks, you can place a stem, log, or wood from any in-game tree in the crafting area to obtain the planks.  You can even mix up random planks in the shield's crafting recipe.

One big problem with shields is that you can only make them out of wood.  Because of that, they have fixed properties by default and have a very original appearance.

Fortunately, Minecraft allows you to replace the latter by creating a custom shield.  Unfortunately, this feature is limited to the Minecraft Java version only.  So, Bedrock users can skip ahead.

At this point, you know that a shield isn't the perfect protection you need to survive in Minecraft.  But now, you're better off knowing how to make a shield in Minecraft without a trip.
