Pokémon Go is constantly updating its massive player base with new creatures, challenges, and events to keep you interested.  As the game celebrates its sixth anniversary this month, its most iconic gameplay element will have plenty of fun surprises.

Raids are a common and important part of most massively multiplayer games.  Countless challengers can band together to face a mighty foe in search of great rewards.  The game constantly changes its available raid bosses, but occasionally a major event overwhelms the system.

Pokémon Go seems to be celebrating its birthday with the return of some of the big names in the game.  This anniversary is no different, as its five-star raid reintroduces some beloved old favorites to the game's lineup.

The big story of July comes in the game's five-star raids, which will feature a new figure each week.  The month features three legendary birds from the franchise's first generation.

From July 1-7, Ice Bird Articuno will be a five-star raid boss.  During that period, Zapdos, the lightning beast, played a role.  From July 14-22, Flame Pokémon Moltres will eliminate all three.  These classic giants make their triumphant return for a limited time.

During the last week of July 22-31, Generation IV veteran Dialga will become a five-star Raid Boss.  After three legendary birds, players can scoop up Temporal Pokémon.

Mega Raids also has some exciting returns and powerful Pokémon.  From July 1-7, Mega Charizard X will be the boss, while it will be replaced by Mega Charizard Y from July 7-14.  Both are extremely powerful and players should try to get them if they don't.

Of those huge events, the One and Three-Star Reds have a few special appearances.  Three-Star Raids include Metagross, Tyranitar, Venusaur, and Blastoise.  The event also features the iconic Party Hat Charizard, which is only available during anniversary events.

One-star raids include Dratini, Unknown E and Pansear.  These impressions also contain an anniversary treat, with Pikachu wearing a cake on his head.
