5 games to play while you wait for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

The Pokémon franchise first launched in 1996 as a video game for the Nintendo Gameboy.  It was a role-playing game in which players took on the role of a coach who embarks on a journey to become the league champion.

By capturing Pokémon found in the wild, players can evolve other Trainers to gain experience points, level up, and help their fellow Pokémon become the best they can be at their pursuit.

Since 1996, the video game series has had several releases, including several mainline entries and spinoff games.  The latest titles to grace the shelves are the upcoming Pokémon Scarlett and Violet game, set in a region inspired by Mediterranean Spain, previously unseen in the series.

It is also the first time in the series that a game introduces a truly open world, with no boundaries and load screens separating sections.  The new games are due for release in November 2022, so fans may be terrified by the anticipation.
