the best anime series on netflix

Despite reports of Netflix regularly axing its handful of shows, it looks like the streaming giant is continuing with its push for animation.

Netflix Geeked Week 2022 provided a handful of both anime-inspired and anime shows coming out within the next year, and the platform is still padding its catalog going into July.

The Viking epic Vinland Saga is set to be unlocked on Netflix outside Japan, along with new episodes from Komi Kent Communicate, and more. To keep up with the latest shows, check out our updated list of the best anime on Netflix right now.

1. Baki

Baki is a thrilling performance of ultra-masculine legends while acting out a perfect tale of a young fighter training to outdo his father.

This high-action shonen is full of tense showdowns between buffs that could possibly be pulled. Seriously, if Netflix released a short video of all the shots of people flexing and tensing their muscles, it could be its own episode.

If muscles and ultra-tough voices weren’t enough, the knowing smiles and derision make these characters the epitome of the meathead tool spirit driving the series. Bucky affirms specific ideas of strength, but challenges its relevance to kindness and freedom.—Jarrod Johnson II

2. Yasuke

Many anime take place in alternate realities, and Yasuke takes place in a version of 16th-century feudal Japan where advanced technology and magic exist.

Yasuke is the main character, and he eventually becomes a warrior in the service of Lord Oda Nobunaga after coming to Japan with Jesuit missionaries.

When Nobunaga and his army are defeated by the demonic chieftain, Yami no Daimyo, Yasuke decides to leave his past behind to become an ordinary sailor. Fate has other things in store for Yasuke, however, as he ends up saving a singer and his magical daughter from warlord mercenaries.

3. ERASED

As a psychological thriller anime, Erased is the one that will charm you and keep you looking. The plot follows a 29-year-old named Satoru who has an uncontrollable power to go back in time whenever something terrible happens in his vicinity.

This ability has helped him prevent a lot of terrible things from happening in his life, but it has never taken him past a few seconds or minutes.

But when an encounter with a serial killer brings back nostalgia and ends in death, Satoru finds that he must go back 18 years in his fifth-grade body to try to stop the killer.

4. Hunter x Hunter

It is pronounced Hunter, Hunter (the X is really silent). Young Gon sets out to find his missing father. Along the way, he makes new friends, enters a martial arts tournament.

and comes face to face with creatures – on his quest to become a Hunter – that any horror prop master would kill to get his hands on.

Gon’s enemies have zero chill so between the action sequences and well-crafted storyline, Hunter x Hunter is some of the best shonen anime ever offered. Come for the familiar premise, stay for the depth of character, deep tone, and its gripping and increasingly complex story arc.

5. In This Corner of the World

Many anime films have reflected on the civilian tragedies of World War II (including the classic Barefoot General and Grave of the Fireflies), but director Sunao Katabuchi sat with them longer than anyone else.

This Corner of the World, set in Hiroshima and Kure, Japan in the years 1944 and 1945, is the longest animated film ever made, and its watercolor backgrounds and simple linework contrast with the uncertainty and rationing of war life at home.

It also depicts terror. To learn that your family and hometown were destroyed in a cloud of fire and light. The story of its heroine Suzu, who does everything possible to keep herself and her family together, is devastating and remarkable.
