Creating fresh original content, Netflix has been at the forefront of adapting video games for various TV projects and has had a surprising amount of success.
His anime based on the Castlevania series had a vigorous four-season run, and his live-action adaptation of The Witcher has become such a huge hit that its world is being expanded through spin-offs.
Video game adaptations haven’t always had the best performances in film and TV. Sure, we got the excellent Mortal Kombat, but there’s a Super Mario Bros. for every MK. We’re not sure why video game movies have had a hard time adapting to different mediums, but it certainly isn’t for lack of effort, that’s for sure.
There have been many attempts to bring video games to the big screen, but it has often been terrifying. Which is why we were quite curious when Netflix announced that it was partnering with Ubisoft to work on a live action series based on the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
1. The Queen’s Gambit

“The Queen’s Gambit” is a show about a chess prodigy named Beth, played by Anya Taylor-Joy. The mobile video game, developed by Ripstone Games, appears to be about chess. While it may come as a shock to some people, chess is a game that already exists – all the time you need to process that information.
That said, “The Queen’s Gambit” game is targeted towards a younger audience. Super fans of the series will likely be able to experience chess for the first time, with the added bonus of interacting with the series’ characters, who are presented in an elegant and engaging style.
The gameplay trailer reveals that “The Queen’s Gambit” video game will include chess lessons and tips that will allow users to play chess. Attractive stuff!
Born in San Francisco in 1928, Tevis had grown up by the time he wrote “The Queen’s Gambit,” and as a result, some aspects of the protagonist’s story were drawn directly from his own experiences.
According to David Hill reporting for The Ringer, Tevis learned to play chess at the age of 7, but was not a prodigy and did not compete professionally until adulthood. Although he never rose to Beth’s level, he appreciated the intricacies of the game.
2. The Witcher: Blood Origin

Now after its successful first two seasons, The Witcher will have a prequel series of its own when The Witcher: Blood Origins releases in 2022. Set 1200 years before the events of The Witcher, the series will trace the creation of the first Witcher as well. Ancient Elven civilization before its demise.
Michelle Yeoh stars as Scian, the last member of his elven tribe in search of a stolen blade, and Blood Origins may finally be a strong way to expand on The Witcher lore.
Right now, The Witcher: Blood Origins prequel series is set to debut on Netflix sometime this year. It was previously rumored that the streaming service was launching somewhere around Christmas.
Officially, the show is a six-episode prequel to Netflix’s The Witcher, which took place some 1,200 years ago, but if any new reports are accurate, the bad news is that may not actually happen.
3. Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness

Capcom’s Hiroyuki Kobayashi is the lead producer on a story that sees the US government caught in a zombie scandal involving foreign interests, secret agents, and yes, fancy strains of the virus. As ridiculous as it sounds.
Remember the riddle of the Sphinx? The impossible question asked by the mythical creature guarding the city of Thebes, who will eat you if you answer wrong?
The question, as everyone remembers from grade school, was tough: “What is the Resident Evil franchise about?” It is difficult to answer this. The sphinx ate a lot of people.

What it is: An Elder Dragon young hunter plans to flee the village of Aiden. It is unfortunate, to say the least. To take it down, Aiden must learn the ropes from experienced hunters, craft new weapons, and hunt many different monsters. Calicos, of course, feature.
In Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild, humans and monsters live in an uneasy balance. A young aspiring monster hunter named Aiden (Dante Basco) tries to prove to his village and himself that he has what it takes to become a monster hunter.
He encounters an ace hunter from the guild named Julius (Brando Marcus) who warns him of a migratory dragon that destroys everything in his path. They work together to save the village of Eden from impending doom.
Along the way, they form a mentor-mentor bond where Julius teaches Aiden the ways of the monster hunter and Aiden reminds Julius what it really means to be a hunter.
The pair team up with other characters who use their brains to try and take out the demons and save the village.
5. Castlevania: Nocturne

Netflix’s Castlevania was a smash success, and it dashed all expectations when it arrived in 2017. Four seasons later, it remains one of the best video game adaptations around—though it should also take the crown for most stylish.
With great, smooth animation and utterly engaging characters, the series is one of Netflix’s all-time best. It’s no surprise that it’s being ported into a whole new series.
In May 2021, Netflix announced plans for a sequel to Castlevania, with the action taking place during the French Revolution, centered on Richter Belmont, a descendant of Trevor Belmont and Cifa Belnades, and fan-favorite character Maria Renard.
